The Renault 4

Hello and welcome to classics of yesteryear. Today I present you the iconic workhorse that rode its way to european streets from 1961 to 1993.The Renault 4

In 1956 the série Renault elaborated a plan for a practical car with the following  caracteristics:

...This car should have easy acess to all parts of the car and should have a more practical appearance (well obviously not ugly)

...It should have suspension for all types of terrain that would take up the minimum space possible.

..It should have traction at the front wheels.

and a few months later they came up with a prototype (the overhead image) but it was far from the real thing. It would only appear in 1961.

And it did in Frankfurt automobile show where it surprised many, due to renault usually putting the engines and traction at the back for a long time so this car was revolutionary.

Many years passed and the original 845cc cleón type engine would be now a 1108cc engine, the front grilles would become plastic and mirrors and dashboards would change.
